The Green Man is a legendary being primarily interpreted as a symbol of rebirth, representing the cycle of new growth that occurs every Spring.
The Green Man is a symbol pre-Christian in its origins but later adopted by Gothic carvers and placed in thousands of churches and cathedrals throughout Europe. He is usually shown as a male head formed as a leaf mask, often disgorging vegetation from his mouth.
He stands for humanity’s deep kinship with trees and woods, irrepressible life and the cycle of natures renewal.
